Eintracht Frankfurt cruises into DFB-Pokal quarter-finals with ruthless 7-0 win over 1. FFV Erfurt
Laura Freigang fires hat-trick as Frankfurt puts seven past valiant Erfurt in DFB-Pokal last-16 clash
Eintracht Frankfurt continued their impressive start to the season with an emphatic 7-0 victory over 1. FFV Erfurt in the DFB-Pokal last 16 on Sunday.
Laura Freigang was the star of the show for Frankfurt, scoring a hat-trick, while Lara Prasnikar, Verena Hanshaw, Geraldine Reuteler, and Jonna Brengel also got on the scoresheet.
Frankfurt, who won the DFB-Pokal in 2018 and 2019, were always the favorites going into the game, but they had to be patient against a spirited Erfurt side who defended resolutely in the early stages.
However, Frankfurt's class eventually told, and they took the lead in the 20th minute when Freigang headed home from close range.
Prasnikar doubled Frankfurt's lead just six minutes later, and the floodgates opened after that.
Freigang scored her second of the game in the 33rd minute, and Hanshaw made it 4-0 just before half-time.
Frankfurt continued to dominate after the break, and Reuteler added a fifth in the 55th minute.
Freigang completed her hat-trick in the 65th minute, and Brengel wrapped up the scoring in the 80th minute.
The win sees Frankfurt progress to the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal, where they will face SC Freiburg.
Erfurt, who play in the third tier of German football, can be proud of their performance against one of the Bundesliga's top sides.
However, Frankfurt were simply too strong on the day, and they will be confident of going all the way in the DFB-Pokal this season.
